SnoCope Credit Union Wins Regional and National Recognition for Free Financial Wellness Education Program

October 7, 2021 Everett, Washington — SnoCope Credit Union has once again been named a regional winner of the Credit Union National Association’s Alphonse Desjardin Award for adult financial literacy. The award was celebrated during the Northwest Credit Union Association’s annual MAXX Convention in Boise, Idaho, Oct. 7. 2021. SnoCope was further recognized at the national level by CUNA with an Honorable Mention Award on November 2nd, 2021 by Jim Nussel, CUNA President/CEO. Nussel congratulated the 2021 Desjardins winners, “Each award recipient represents the spirit of what credit unions are all about – people helping people.”

When interviewed by Jenny Miller, Editor of the NWCUA’s weekly newsletter, Anthem, Steven Ellis, President/CEO of SnoCope commented, “SnoCope is extremely proud to receive the national level Honorable Mention. Since early 2014, we have worked diligently to make our members, our community and our employer groups aware of the value-added benefits that derive from SnoCope membership and the credit union industry. Having our program acknowledged by our peers, that’s an incredible honor. Receiving this award marks a seven-year milestone in our mission to bring financial wellness to everyone in our community. It further encourages us to make incremental changes that grow our program, even more, in directions we haven’t even yet imagined.”

When asked why this national recognition is so important to SnoCope Ellis said, “When we help empower people to understand money, their quality of life improves. When people learn how to budget, plan and save they feel hopeful. They can aspire to do more, achieve more, be more and have more. They can share and they can dream. What’s unique about the credit union industry’s financial literacy mission and our daily work --- is that we all understand the intangible goodness that comes from helping each other understand money, one member at a time.”
